On our website we have Research which contains Local History and our Research Tools. We broke out the research tools section by genre and alphabetically so whichever preference people had, they could quickly use. In the first few weeks of the new site we implemented the yellow section with letters that let’s you jump to specific sections alphabetically.
This was a very welcomed change.
The click data and scroll data aren’t very important here, but I’m going to display them for transparency. This page could show everyone using the top portion or all the way to the bottom. The real measuring stick here is Google Analytics.
Full Referrer Path
The bounce is great – 25% and the exit % doesn’t matter because we expect people to leave for the research tools. I actually wish that was higher – it would indicate they found what they were looking for right away.
Event Data Referral Path
How people get to our resources is just one attribute. Something to monitor for the future is the usage of each of these resources. I’ll setup an automated monthly report to our Tech Services Manager.
Next Possible Steps:
Nothing to really do here – we just didn’t want to see a high bounce rate and low usage of the events. 15% usage from this page is not terrible, but definitely something to watch as it grows.
